A man was arrested Thursday after police said he attempted to steal a rental van from an Enterprise Rent-A-Car location in Visalia.

Officers with the Visalia Police Department and the Tulare County Regional Auto Theft Task Force responded shortly before 1:30 p.m. to a reported stolen vehicle at Enterprise Rent-A-Car on West Airport Drive, police said.

Investigators said Brady Daniel, 53, had rented a white Ram van and later disputed charges with the rental company after returning it. Although he handed over the keys, police said Daniel left the van running and then drove away.

While officers were at the scene, Daniel contacted Enterprise and said he was returning the van, according to police. When he arrived, officers said he ignored their commands before eventually being taken into custody.

Police said Daniel continued refusing commands after his arrest and threatened to assault officers.

Earlier this week, Daniel had also been arrested on suspicion of assault and threatening law enforcement officers at a local massage parlor, police said.

The van was later recovered in a parking lot near Demaree Street and Houston Avenue.

Daniel was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, resisting or obstructing an officer, and threatening an officer.
