A person was killed in a shooting Tuesday night in Modesto, and police said the violence appears to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.

Officers responded around 8:40 p.m. to a report of a shooting near Ellison and Lancey drives, the Modesto Police Department said in a statement.

When officers arrived, they found a person suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim later died from their injuries, police said.

Detectives with the department’s Violent Crimes Unit have taken over the investigation.

Police said the case remains active and that no additional information would be released at this time.
