A traffic stop Friday on northbound Interstate 5 in Fresno County led to the seizure of more than 60 pounds of methamphetamine, fentanyl powder, and a stolen handgun, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Central Division.
CHP said a K-9 sergeant conducted an enforcement stop after observing multiple violations. During the stop, officers reported detecting the odor of burnt marijuana and other indicators of criminal activity.
After getting consent to search the vehicle, officers found approximately 61 pounds of methamphetamine and 7 pounds of fentanyl powder inside the trunk. A loaded stolen handgun was also found in the center console, according to CHP.
The driver was taken into custody, and the case was turned over to the Fresno High Impact Investigations Team.
CHP estimated the street value of the drugs at more than $2.2 million for the methamphetamine and about $254,240 for the fentanyl.
Charges include possession for sale of methamphetamine and fentanyl, and transportation of methamphetamine.
