Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is gaining momentum as a potential frontrunner for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, according to Newsweek.
The New York congresswoman has been drawing massive crowds alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders on their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, with recent rallies attracting over 30,000 attendees in multiple cities.
Their appearance in Bakersfield drew 4,000 attendees inside the venue and an overflow crowd of 500, according to Sanders’ campaign. The two leading progressive voices attracted 30,000 people for their rally in Folsom.
Growing Momentum And Support
Nate Silver, a noted polling expert, recently identified Ocasio-Cortez as the Democrat with the strongest current prospects for leading the party’s 2028 presidential ticket. “I think there’s a lot of points in her favor at this very moment,” said Galen Druke, a former FiveThirtyEight staffer, during a discussion with Silver.
Additionally, a Yale University poll placed Ocasio-Cortez at the top among potential candidates, revealing a +60 net favorability rating for her within the Democratic party. In recent primary polls, she has consistently placed in the top three, even without officially announcing a run.
Democratic strategist Robert Creamer told Newsweek, “There’s room now for a chorus of voices to stand up. And people want to see leaders fighting back.” Imani Cheers, a professor at George Washington University, added that Ocasio-Cortez “still resonates” and is “speaking truthfully and urgently about what’s happening right now.”
