A McFarland man was sentenced to life in prison for the 2019 shooting death of a man in Tulare, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Christopher Gonzalez, 31, received the sentence following his no-contest plea to felony first-degree murder.

According to the DA’s office, the shooting occurred on August 24, 2019, when officers responded to a call of a gunshot victim at Prosperity Sports Complex.

The victim, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, later died at a local hospital.

Witnesses testified that Gonzalez approached the victim in the parking lot after a softball game and, after a brief exchange, shot him multiple times.

Gonzalez was arrested three days later in Shafter.

Gonzalez must serve at least 25 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole.
