A man and his dog were rescued Saturday afternoon after becoming stranded on a downed tree in the Kings River, near Adams and Kings River Road, the Fresno Sheriff’s office reported.

The man lost control of his kayak during a river float and managed to reach safety on top of a submerged tree. He and his dog were aided by a friend who alerted local authorities.

Boating deputies responded to the scene and safely retrieved the man and his dog.

Water Safety for You and Your Pet

The dog was equipped with a life jacket, which played a crucial role in ensuring its safety during the rescue. While many dogs are proficient swimmers, unpredictable river conditions can pose risks even to the most skilled swimming pets. Owners are reminded that outfitting pets with life jackets can significantly enhance their safety and aid in rescue operations.

Authorities want to emphasize the importance of personal safety, urging all individuals, including experienced swimmers, to wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets. Properly fitted and secured life jackets are essential for preventing accidents.
