A Fresno County judge sentenced Brent Cox to 16 years and four months in state prison on Wednesday for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
The assaults by Cox, 42, came to light publicly in early 2021 when Fresno County Sheriff’s detectives served a search warrant on his home and arrested Cox and his wife, as well as the victim’s mother.
The arrests made headlines in Fresno and around the country because Cox, his wife Jilian, and Tammy Schreiner were in a long-term “throuple” sexual relationship.
According to prosecutors, the trio conspired to groom the victim to become Brent Cox’s “third wife.”
Schreiner, who is the mother of the victim, received a state prison sentence of four years and four months, according to a DA’s Office news release.
Brent Cox, Jilian Cox, and Schreiner all pleaded guilty to felony sexual assault charges.
In imposing the term on Brent Cox, Judge David Gottlieb rejected the District Attorney’s recommendation of a 38-year sentence.
Jillian Cox received a sentence of one year in county jail and four years’ felony probation on Jan. 6.
Deputy District Attorney Andrew Janz prosecuted the case.
