Virtually everyone complains about Caltrans at some point.

But the state’s transportation agency helps keep travelers safe by providing up-to-date information on highway and road closures through this link and social media postings.

Less well known, perhaps, is Caltrans closed-circuit TV map, which allows people to see weather and traffic conditions in real-time throughout the state.

Headed to Tahoe? Here’s the real-time view at Emigrant Gap on Interstate 80.

And here’s the view for Los Angeles-bound travelers on the Grapevine at Lebec.

Start by going to the Caltrans CCTV link, then click on the location you want to see.
