Southern California Edison says that Shaver Lake will reopen for recreation on Saturday.

Assemblymember Jim Patterson says the marina’s boat slips, bait store, horseback riding, and restrooms will all be open.

The main parking lot and boat launch will open as well.

In an email, Patterson said, “Look forward to seeing you on the lake!”

The man-made lake, which rests at 5,500-feet in the Sierra, is one of the most popular weekend destinations in Fresno County.

Letter to Fresno County

Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig shared on his Facebook page a copy of the letter sent from SCE to county health director David Pomaville.

Parts of the letter read:

  • “Because SCE’s re-opening plan does not re-open campgrounds, SCE believes that Shaver Lake is an outdoor recreational amenity permitted to open within Stage 2 of the state’s Resilience Roadmap.”
  • “… SCE notes that keeping Shaver Lake closed creates public health and safety risks. Unfortunately, individuals have been parking vehicles on the sides of area roads and accessing the area despite SCE and county efforts to maintain closure.”
  • “The lack of open bathroom facilities has also contributed to a sanitation issue around Shaver Lake. SCE’s limited re-opening plan of providing access to bathrooms (which will be serviced and cleaned twice per day) and some of its parking lots will assist the county in mitigating these ongoing health and safety risks.”
