Don’t forget to have a dollar — or two — in your car Tuesday.

Do it for youngsters like Maddox, whose story you can learn about in the video at the bottom of this post.

This is the 32nd Kids Day, a fundraising event for Valley Children’s that has raised more than $9.2 million from donations throughout Central California. This year’s goal is $625,000.

Maddox spent 153 days in Valley Children’s Hospital’s Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He was born 16 weeks early and weighed less than two pounds.

Today, Maddox is a first-grader at a Fresno elementary school. He loves music and playing with his younger sister, Raegan. She was also born at 26 weeks and spent months in Valley Children’s NICU.

Kids Day Has Raised $9.2 Million

More than 8,000 volunteers will be spread throughout the Valley on Tuesday hawking special Kids Day editions of The Fresno Bee for a suggested donation of $1.

This is the 32nd Kids Day, a fundraising event for Valley Children’s that has raised more than $9.2 million from donations throughout Central California. This year’s goal is $625,000.

Last year, your donations helped purchase state-of-the-art equipment, including the region’s first EOS imaging system, which produces full-body 3D images while exposing children to significantly less radiation; provide care for more than 288,000 outpatient cases; perform more than 12,700 surgeries, and support 114,000 emergency visits.

Students from more than 235 schools from Modesto to Porterville — elementary schools to universities — are volunteering in this year’s event.

Once again, local politicians, sports figures, educators and mascots will man “celebrity” corner at Blackstone and Shaw avenues in Fresno.

Many Ways to Donate

To contribute to Kids Day, you can buy a newspaper Tuesday, text GEORGE to 80077 to make an automatic $10 donation, or go online to this link.

Attention, motorists! Drive cautiously and be on the lookout for volunteers selling newspapers on street corners throughout the Valley from 5 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Kids Day is sponsored by The Fresno Bee and ABC30.
