Fresno Unified’s school-based health clinics are remaining open to provide medical care to kids while schools are closed because of COVID-19 coronavirus.
At this point, schools in Fresno and Clovis unified school districts will remain closed until April 14. Central Unified’s will remain closed until April 20. Today was the first day schools were closed.
Fresno Unified said on its website that the health clinic at Gaston Middle School will be open to the community, and the clinic at Addams Elementary will be open to Addams students. In addition, the Tioga Middle School clinic also will be open.
The Fresno Teachers Association reported that the Tioga clinic will be open for its normal Tuesday-Friday schedule and will be staffed by one nurse practitioner and two LVNs. The Gaston and Addams clinics are operated by Clinica Sierra Vista, the FTA said.

Some Staffers Needed At Schools

Fresno Unified supervisors and managers, food service staff, custodians, human resources, and fiscal employees are scheduled to work this week.
Health services employees will work today and Tuesday only, and they will be handing over medications that are kept at schools for students.
Likewise, health services employees in Clovis and Central unified school districts are providing school-stored medicines to students.
Teachers in Fresno, Clovis or Central unified districts were among the district’s employees who were not asked to report to work this week.
Staffers who do work today are not being accompanied by their children, said Nikki Henry, spokeswoman for Fresno Unified, and Sonja Dosti, spokeswoman for Central Unified.

Number Of Meals Needed Unknown

Dosti said the district did not know how many students may come in today to collect their meals.
“Today is going to be very busy and give us a better idea of how many students to expect in the coming days and weeks,” she said in an email.
Students may pick up same-day lunch and next-day breakfast between 11 am. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following locations: Biola-Pershing Elementary, Central High School East, Hanh Phan Tilley Elementary, James K. Polk Elementary, Teague Elementary, and William Saroyan Elementary.
Children must be present to pick up a meal.

State Center Employees Staying Home

State Center Community College District employees who are 65 and older or have underlying health issues may stay home, Chancellor Paul Parnell told them via email.
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sunday advised all Californians 65 and older to remain at home to reduce the chance of catching COVID-19, which has been much more dangerous for older people or those with existing health issues.

Fresno City College Closed

Fresno City College was closed today and will remain closed for the rest of the week after officials learned a student had been exposed to a COVID-19 patient outside the Central Valley.
The Fresno City student has not tested positive for the virus, but the Fresno County Department of Health is recommending self-isolation.
The school had previously announced that face to face classes would be cancelled through Thursday and students would move to online teaching. The campus was scheduled to remain open for other business needs.
The entire campus will now be closed to all staff and students for the week, pending the outcome of the affected student’s COVID-19 test results.
