The Salvation Army is a familiar presence during the holidays.
Volunteers ring bells and collect donations in signature red kettles across the community.
On Day 2 of our 12 Days of Philanthropy, we visit with Major Carole Abella, Co-Director of Fresno’s Salvation Army corps. In the video above, she shares the many ways this long-serving organization helps those in need.
“I love being able to make a difference in the lives of people,” she said.
We saw students from Duncan Poly High School ROTC who were busy wrapping gifts for children and filling food boxes for delivery to families in need.
It brought home a point that Major Abella wanted to make very clear:  The gift of time is just as important as the gift of money when it comes to helping others.
“Maybe you can’t give financially,” she said. “But you can give of your time and your talent.”
Please visit The Salvation Army website to learn more about donating and volunteering locally.
