Pandemic’s Effect on Vehicle Sales

Nationally, based on iSeeCars.com’s analysis of 4.4 million new and used vehicle sales, the average new car required 96.9 days to sell compared to 57.8 days during the pre-COVID period of November 2019 through February.

For used cars, the national average time to sell for March through June was 68.9 days compared to 50.1 days before the pandemic.

“The effective demand for these vehicles has slowed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic due to lockdowns and downturns in the economy, but the change was much more dramatic for new vehicles than for used vehicles,” said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly.

“Many of these fastest-selling vehicles are popular cars that are hard to find for reasons such as the effect of the pandemic on supply chains, they were produced in limited quantities, or that they are new models that aren’t yet abundant in the used car marketplace.”

The Fresno-Visalia market beat the national average by 2.5 days for used cars, with vehicles averaging 66.4 days on dealer lots.
