Fresno’s Marc Castro gave the hometown fans what they yearned for Saturday night: a first-round technical knockout.

Punishing Angel Luna (14-8-1) of New York with combinations from start to finish, the Sunnyside High School graduate improved to 4-0 in his first fight in Fresno as a professional boxer.

After the victory, Castro leaped on the ropes and saluted the fans.

Mikey Garcia Suffers Upset Loss

In the main event of a card promoted by Eddie Hearn, former world champion Mikey Garcia (40-2) of Oxnard lost by majority decision to Spain’s Sandor Martin.

Sandor received the edge in scoring on two cards (both 97-93) while the third judge called the welterweight bout a draw.

The result was a massive upset in that until Saturday, Martin hadn’t beaten a notable opponent while compiling a 38-2 record.

“It’s the biggest moment of my career,” said Martin. I always said I was going to do it and I’ve done it.”

Said Hearn: “Sandor Martin just got more and more confident as the night went on. It was a massive win. A huge win for Spanish boxing. That’s probably the biggest win in the history of Spanish boxing.”
