The Visalia Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint Friday night as officers urge residents to plan for a sober ride.
The department said checkpoints are placed in areas where impaired-driving crashes and DUI arrests have previously occurred.
Police also warned that a first-time DUI can average about $13,500 in fines, fees and other costs.
The department encouraged people who plan to drink to get a ride, call a friend, use a rideshare service or designate a sober driver.
“Don’t drink and drive. Your life, and the lives of everyone else on the road, are worth way more than a few drinks,” the department said.
