A 15-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly leading Madera police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle before crashing and running into a vineyard early Sunday, authorities said.

Officers located the stolen vehicle near Conrad Street and Pecan Avenue and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, according to the Madera Police Department. Police said the teenage driver refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit.

As the driver attempted to turn north onto South Madera Avenue from Avenue 12, he lost control of the vehicle and struck an object near the roadway, disabling the vehicle, police said.

The teen then ran from the vehicle and entered a nearby vineyard, where officers located him a short time later and took him into custody.

He was later booked on charges related to the incident, police said. No injuries were reported.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol assisted Madera police during the incident.
