A 32-year-old man wanted on several felony warrants was arrested after police found him hiding on a second-story balcony during a trespassing investigation, the Coalinga Police Department said.

Officers were dispatched shortly after noon Aug. 23 to the 100 block of East Houston Street for a report of a possible trespasser.

Police said several people emerged from the residence as officers spoke with the property owners. Those leaving the home told officers no one else was inside.

As officers cleared the two-story residence, they found a man hiding on the front porch. Police said the man attempted to flee but stopped after apparently deciding against jumping from the second-story balcony and surrendered.

Police identified him as Edgar David Cerventes, 32, who was wanted on several felony warrants from multiple counties involving charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy, and mail theft.

Police said Cerventes is known for committing vehicle and residential burglaries in the community.

He was processed at the Coalinga Jail facility before being booked into the Fresno County Jail on the outstanding warrants.

While clearing the residence, officers also found several wallets that did not belong to the property owners and were not claimed by anyone inside, police said.

Investigators determined the wallets had been stolen the previous night from a vehicle at a nearby residential facility, but the theft had not yet been reported to law enforcement. The property owner declined to pursue charges, and the stolen property was returned.

Coalinga police reminded residents to lock their vehicles and avoid leaving valuables inside.
