Seven people escaped safely after an airplane went down Tuesday morning in a field near the Porterville airport, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called just before 11:45 a.m. to the area of Teapot Dome Avenue and Newcomb Street for a report of a downed airplane, the Sheriff’s Office said.

When deputies arrived, they found the plane down in a field near the airport with smoke showing from the area.

All seven people aboard the aircraft, including the pilot, were able to get out safely, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
