The Fresno Police Department arrested 12 drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence on Saturday, authorities said.

Drivers convicted of a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license, police said.

The department said it will conduct another DUI enforcement operation on July 11 as well as a series of DUI patrols and checkpoints throughout the year aimed at keeping roadways safe.

Funding for the enforcement program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
