A man has been arrested on murder and torture charges in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in a canal earlier this month, the Fresno Police Department said in a statement.
Police said that this is the eleventh murder of 2026.
Officers responded at about 11:42 p.m. May 10 to the canal bank near Nielson and Hughes avenues after receiving a report of a woman in the water.
Officers arrived and removed the woman, who was identified as Georgiana McGhee, from the water. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an autopsy on May 12, homicide detectives were notified that McGhee’s death had been ruled a homicide, police said.
During their investigation, detectives identified Boshay Ware, 48, as the suspect responsible for McGhee’s death. Ware was booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of murder and torture.
Detectives also determined that a reported missing person, identified as Jerome Saldivar, 55, of Fresno, was assaulted by the suspect.
Saldivar’s whereabouts remain unknown, according to police.
