A Kern County Fire Department helicopter crew completed a hoist rescue after a person was injured in a canyon in the Jaw Bone area, the Kern County Fire Department reported.
Helicopter 407, working in coordination with the department’s Emergency Communications Center, responded to the incident on Friday, Feb. 13.
Officials said the patient was hurt in steep terrain with no cell service available. Family members had to hike out of the canyon to obtain reception and contact emergency responders.
Dispatchers gathered critical information that allowed the helicopter crew to locate the person.
The crew then hoisted the individual from the canyon, transferred them to a waiting ambulance and transported them for definitive care, according to the Kern County Fire Department.
