Fresno police arrested 12 drivers on suspicion of DUI during an enforcement operation on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Drivers convicted of a first-time DUI offense face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license, the Fresno Police Department said in a statement.

Police plan to hold another DUI enforcement operation on Saturday, March 29, with additional patrols and checkpoints scheduled throughout the year to improve roadway safety.

The enforcement efforts are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
