The Visalia Police Department made 26 DUI arrests in two separate operations over the weekend, the department said in a statement.

A joint DUI enforcement operation led by the Visalia Police Department and the California Highway Patrol resulted in 22 arrests for driving under the influence and two arrests for reckless driving on Friday, authorities said.

“We are committed to taking impaired drivers off the road,” said Sgt. Henry Martinez of the Visalia Police Department. “Driving under the influence is not only dangerous but also has major consequences.”

In a separate DUI saturation patrol on St. Patrick’s Day, Monday, Visalia police arrested four more drivers on suspicion of DUI.

Officials said a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, funded the grants.

Additional enforcement efforts are planned to curb impaired driving and prevent dangerous incidents.
