After grinding out a homecourt victory against Wyoming to end an 11-game losing streak, the Fresno State men’s basketball team had no answers at San Jose State on Saturday.
Donavan Yap exploded for 30 points as the Spartans ran to a 92-68 victory over the Bulldogs.
With the loss, Fresno State dropped to 6-25 overall and 2-18 in the Mountain West Conference. The Bulldogs finished 10th in the conference, a game ahead of last-place Air Force. It was their first season under coach Vance Walberg.
In addition to their poor performance on the court, the Bulldogs have been rocked by a gambling scandal that resulted in the dismissal of two players from the program.
Yap shot 11 for 14 from the field, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range for the Spartans (14-18, 7-13). Jermaine Washington added 19 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Jasir Tremble keyed the Fresno State attack with 22 points. Elijah Price finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks for the Bulldogs.
