A homicide investigation is underway after Shirla Ramirez, 62, was found dead in her Fresno home on Monday, the Fresno Police Department said in a news release.

Officers responded to a welfare check request after Ramirez failed to show up to work.
They arrived at a residence at East Cortland Avenue and Ninth Street and found Ramirez unresponsive inside her home.

EMS personnel pronounced her dead.
Detectives later determined that Ramirez’s injuries were consistent with blunt force trauma and several lacerations to her upper body, leading to a ruling of homicide.
Investigators identified Ramirez’s son, Brad Ramirez, 35, as the suspect.
He was taken into custody on Wednesday after being discharged from Community Regional Medical Center on an unrelated matter.
