A routine traffic stop on Interstate 5 turned into a major drug bust after California Highway Patrol officers seized 20 pounds of cocaine with a street value of $720,000, according to a CHP Central Division statement on Monday.

The incident occurred on Oct. 11, when a CHP Central Division K-9 officer pulled over a Nissan Sentra for a traffic violation in Fresno County, according to authorities.
During the stop, the officer’s K-9 partner detected narcotics, leading to the discovery of the hidden cocaine.

Two suspects, Martha Trejo-Servin and Rafael Nieves, were arrested and charged with felony drug offenses. A third occupant of the vehicle was released without charges.
Officers also uncovered a tracking device, a tool often used by traffickers to monitor their shipments.

The case is now under investigation by the Fresno High Impact Investigation Team.
