GV Wire hosted a debate at CMAC, Fresno’s Community Media Access Collaborative between incumbent Fresno County Supervisor Sal Quintero and challenger Luis Chavez, a Fresno City Councilmember, for the District 3 supervisorial seat on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Campaign Funding

Estimated money raised in 2024 from both candidates against the money raised from labor unions. (GV Wire)

So far in 2024, Chavez has raised approximately $168,987.77, while Quintero has garnered around $67,990.61. Of Chavez’s total, $103,438.80 has come from labor unions, whereas Quintero has raised only $500 from that source.

In a previous report by GV Wire, it has been revealed that Quintero has $63,169 cash on hand while Chavez has slightly more at $64,063 as of Thursday.

What Would Happen at the City Council Seat if Chavez Wins?

After the debate, GV Wire asked Chavez about the potential candidates for his city council seat if he wins the supervisorial race.

Question: If you win this election, who is likely to run for your Fresno City Council seat?

Chavez’s Answer: The rule of thumb is that when there’s an open seat, at least four or five people will be interested in running. My former district director Daniel Cisneros, who is now an attorney, definitely will be interested.

Question: What about your wife, Fresno Unified School Board Trustee Elizabeth Jonasson Rosas?

Answer: Elizabeth is running now for her reelection at Fresno Unified, and she’s very happy with her position at Westlands Water District. Of course, any future decision is up to her.
