Candidates in several local election races are close in campaign financial contributions.
In fact, in the two Fresno County supervisor races, the candidates are at a near dead-heat for total money raised.
Through Sept. 21, incumbent Sal Quintero showed a total lead of less than $9,000 against challenger Luis Chavez in the race for the District 3 seat — covering much of south Fresno and the surrounding area.
However, with contributions after the deadline, Chavez has pulled into the overall lead. He also raised more for the most recent reporting period between July 1 and Sept. 21.
Both are virtually even cash on hand.
For District 2 — much of north Fresno and parts of Clovis — incumbent Steve Brandau has a slight overall lead in total money, and money raised for the period. But challenger Garry Bredefeld has a significant cash-on-hand advantage of nearly $200,000.
Bredefeld and Chavez are sitting Fresno city councilmembers.
 City Council Races
There is one active Fresno City Council race on the Nov. 5 election. Roger Bonakdar continues significant leads for overall money raised, and cash on hand against challenger Nickolas Richardson.
Richardson did post more money raised for the most recent period.
In Clovis, only incumbents Lynne Ashbeck and Vong Mouanoutoua are running for two positions in an at-large election. Both fundraised modestly in the last reporting period.
There is one more pre-election reporting deadline, due Thursday, Oct. 24 — covering the period Sept. 22 through Oct. 19.
