Another reporter is leaving KSEE-24/CBS 47.

Liv Johnson announced she is leaving the Nexstar-owned duopoly for WESH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Orlando owned by Hearst, the 17th-ranked TV market by population. Fresno is No. 55.

Growing up in Atlanta, and educated at Syracuse, Johnson worked for two years in Fresno as her second TV job. She came from the Fox affiliate in San Angelo, Texas (market No. 197).

“My contract’s ending in January, and I have been thinking about getting a little bit closer to home for a while,” Johnson said. “I really like warm weather, though. I told my agent I want palm trees and good news, and that’s pretty much Florida.”

Covering California’s wildfires was an eye-opening experience for Johnson.

“They fight fires here like a well-oiled machine. So I think just being able to cover wildfires was crazy and great experience for me as a reporter,” Johnson said.

Johnson, 25, is the latest Nexstar reporter to move on. Other recent departures include Megan Rupe (Washington, DC), Gabe Salazar (Albuquerque), and Caroline Collins (Houston).

Perhaps Johnson can get advice from Marie Edinger, who left KMPH Fox 26 last year for the Fox affiliate in Orlando.

KMJ Now Delivering Fox News

The new year brought a new national news provider for KMJ radio (580 AM/105.9 FM). Fox News is now providing top-of-the-hour news updates and national stories during KMJ’s news broadcasts.

For the past few years, KMJ used ABC News. Prior to that, it was a CBS News affiliate, and decades ago, it relied on NBC News (which stopped branding its radio division as “NBC” in the 1980s).

Fox News now provides the news for both KMJ and Power Talk (96.7 FM/1400 AM).

How Much Does Fresno TV Pay?

Thanks to a new state law, California employers must post a salary range when advertising a new job.

At Nexstar’s KSEE-24/CBS 47, they are hiring a news director ($100,000); morning news anchor ($66,000); weekend weather anchor/reporter ($25.96 an hour or $54,000 a year); reporter ($20.67 an hour or $43,000 a year); and digital producer ($19.23 an hour or $40,000 a year).

KMPH Fox 26 is seeking a meteorologist, paying $95,000-$120,000. Word is that chief weather guy Kevan Ramer is leaving the station to be closer to his Alabama home.

Also, the station is looking for a new general manager. Matt Morse left last month for parts unknown after spending three years on the job, and 10 with the station. The gig pays $151,300-$171,800.

David Taub,
Senior Reporter
Curiosity drives David Taub. The award-winning journalist might be shy, but feels mighty with a recorder in his hand. He doesn't see it his job to "hold public officials accountable," but does see it to provide readers (and voters) the information needed to make intelligent choices. Taub has been honored with several writing awards from the California News Publishers Association. He's just happy to have his stories read. Joining GV Wire in 2016, Taub covers politics, government and elections, mainly in the Fresno/Clovis area. He also writes columns about local eateries (Appetite for Fresno), pro wrestling (Off the Bottom Rope), and media (Media Man). Prior to joining the online news source, Taub worked as a radio producer for KMJ and PowerTalk 96.7 in Fresno. He also worked as an assignment editor for KCOY-TV in Santa Maria, California, and KSEE-TV in Fresno. He has also worked behind the scenes for several sports broadcasts, including the NCAA basketball tournament, and the Super Bowl. When not spending time with his family, Taub loves to officially score Fresno Grizzlies games. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Taub is a die-hard Giants and 49ers fan. He graduated from the University of Michigan with dual degrees in communications and political science. Go Blue! You can contact David at 559-492-4037 or at Send an Email
