A man accused of possessing merchandise stolen from a BNSF Railway train was arrested Tuesday after leading Kern County sheriff’s deputies on a vehicle and foot pursuit, authorities said.
A Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputy assigned to the Walker Basin Substation spotted a suspicious vehicle about 7 a.m. and attempted a traffic stop, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The driver failed to yield and led the deputy on a pursuit along Bena and Baker Grade roads. Additional deputies responded as the suspect fled.
Deputies established a perimeter and used air support, including department drones, and a police dog to search for the suspect.
Authorities identified the suspect as Miguel Aldaco. Deputies found Aldaco hiding in a culvert, but he fled on foot again, according to authorities.
He was eventually located and arrested.
Deputies recovered an estimated $60,000 worth of merchandise that authorities said was confirmed stolen from a BNSF Railway train.
Aldaco was booked into the Lerdo Inmate Receiving Facility on suspicion of evading arrest, possession of stolen property, obstructing or resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools, and having no evidence of current vehicle registration. He also had an outstanding misdemeanor bench warrant.
