A 65-year-old registered sex offender was arrested Wednesday after investigators traced a tip about suspected child sexual abuse material to him, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said.
Bryan Eugene Fox, of San Luis Obispo, was taken into custody following an investigation that began in early October when the department’s detective bureau received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
The tip involved suspected child sexual abuse material being uploaded through a popular search engine, police said.
An Internet Crimes Against Children detective investigated the tip and traced it to Fox, a convicted sex offender who was not complying with his court-ordered registration requirements, according to police.
After obtaining an arrest warrant, officers located Fox and took him into custody.
Fox was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of felony failure to register as a sex offender, felony possession of child sexual abuse material by a registered sex offender, misdemeanor possession of child sexual abuse material, and felony possession of a controlled substance.
Police also listed an allegation of committing a felony while out on bail.
The incident was reported in the 3000 block of Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo.
The investigation remains ongoing.
