A 36-year-old man was arrested after a security guard helped Madera police track down a suspect accused of stealing an IHOP employee’s jacket containing a wallet and car keys, authorities said.

The theft was reported at a local IHOP, where an employee discovered their jacket had been stolen, according to the Madera Police Department.

After reviewing surveillance footage, the employee shared information about the suspect and a vehicle with a security guard at Zak’s.

Later that evening, the security guard spotted the suspected vehicle and alerted police.

Officers located the vehicle behind Rancho San Miguel Supermarket and contacted the driver, identified as Guillermo Juarez, 36.

Police said Juarez was wearing the stolen jacket and had the employee’s wallet in his possession.

Juarez was identified as the suspect and arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of stolen property. He was booked into the Madera County Jail.
