A Kings County sheriff’s sergeant who spent more than a month hospitalized with a rare medical condition has returned to work on light duty, the Sheriff’s Office announced.

Sgt. Andrew Mazza experienced the medical condition in May 2026, requiring more than a month of hospitalization at a local medical facility.

The Sheriff’s Office said Mazza recently returned to work on a light-duty basis and is expected to resume full duty in November.

Following Mazza’s medical emergency, local businessman Ali Azizuddin partnered with the Kings County Sheriff’s Foundation to establish an Emergency Assistance Fund, the agency said.

The fund is designed to provide financial assistance to Kings County Sheriff’s Office personnel experiencing qualifying emergencies or hardships.

Community members interested in contributing to the fund can contact the Kings County Sheriff’s Foundation at KCSOF24@gmail.com.
