A 38-year-old man was arrested Thursday after allegedly forcing a woman into a pickup truck and fleeing the area, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to the 1800 block of Pacific Street around 4:30 a.m. following a report of a possible kidnapping.
Witnesses told deputies they saw a woman in her 30s being forcibly dragged toward a lowered white and orange Chevrolet truck by a man later identified as Joseph Cruz, 38.
The woman reportedly attempted to pull away from Cruz but was eventually placed inside the truck before it fled the area, authorities said.
Sheriff’s detectives took over the investigation and developed probable cause to arrest Cruz on suspicion of kidnapping.
Investigators identified the vehicle involved and conducted surveillance in the area.
After several hours, deputies located the truck in the 800 block of Exchange and contacted Cruz at a residence, where he was taken into custody.
The woman was also found at the residence and was uninjured, authorities said.
Cruz was booked into the Kern County Sheriff’s Office jail on suspicion of kidnapping, domestic violence, possession of an illegal weapon, and unrelated narcotics offenses.
