A man was arrested Wednesday after Fresno police said he assaulted his wife while she was holding their 3-month-old child.

Officers responded at about 6:06 p.m. for a domestic disturbance and found the victim crying and having difficulty speaking, police said. Officers observed an inch-long red cut above her left eye.

The victim told officers that she and Miguel Martinez had been married for two years and have two children together.

Police said Martinez became upset while the victim was speaking with her mother on the phone and snatched the phone from her hand. The victim then borrowed a phone from one of Martinez’s friends.

The victim told officers Martinez became upset again and pulled her hair and pushed her while she was holding their 3-month-old child.

After the victim went inside the residence, Martinez struck her again, causing the injury above her eye, police said.

Martinez was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
