A California Highway Patrol traffic stop in Merced County led to the seizure of about 30 pounds of suspected cocaine worth more than $817,000, authorities said.
A CHP Central Division canine officer stopped a 2025 Honda CR-V on Interstate 5 for a traffic violation Wednesday, according to CHP Merced.
During the stop, the officer noticed several indicators of possible criminal activity, authorities said. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a bag containing approximately 30 pounds of suspected cocaine.
CHP estimated the drugs had a street value of $817,200.
The driver was detained without incident, and the investigation was turned over to the Merced Area Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team.
The driver was arrested and later booked into the Merced County Main Jail on suspicion of possession of cocaine for sale and transportation of cocaine across noncontiguous counties.
CHP did not identify the driver in the information released.
