A 15-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman were arrested Thursday following a family disturbance and shooting that left two people injured, according to the Clovis Police Department.

Officers responded to a home in the 300 block of West Ashcroft at about 7:43 p.m. Wednesday after receiving several 911 calls reporting a shooting, police said.

Officers found an adult man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Police described his injury as non-life-threatening. The two suspects had left the scene before officers arrived.

Police said information provided to the department’s Real-Time Information Center helped officers identify both suspects. Detectives and crime scene investigators were called to investigate, and officers recovered the handgun used in the shooting.

Investigators determined the 15-year-old, who is from Fresno, went to the home with a handgun and tried to steal money from his ex-girlfriend, police said. A physical disturbance followed, during which police said the teenager shot the adult man.

Police said the second suspect, identified as Mayra Contreras, 21, of Fresno, pistol whipped an adult woman with the handgun before she and the teenager left in her car.

On Thursday morning, the teenager’s mother called the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to report that her son had been shot in the wrist, according to Clovis police. Investigators determined the teenager accidentally shot himself when he shot the adult man during the disturbance, police said.

Detectives arrested both suspects without incident Thursday morning.

The teenager was treated for his gunshot wound and booked into Fresno County’s Juvenile Justice Center on several felony allegations, including assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and domestic violence, police said.

Contreras was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Both adult victims received medical treatment and were recovering Thursday morning, police said.
