The California Highway Patrol’s Visalia office will deploy additional officers on Highway 198 on Aug. 26 as part of a special traffic enforcement operation following a recent incident in which a motorcyclist was clocked traveling 113 mph.

The enforcement effort will focus on unsafe driving behaviors, including speeding, following too closely, unsafe lane changes, and improper turning, according to CHP.

Officials said excessive speed significantly increases both the likelihood of crashes and the severity of injuries when collisions occur.

CHP reported that between January and December 2024, its jurisdiction recorded 48 motorcycle-related injury crashes and four fatal motorcycle crashes.

The enforcement operation is funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
