The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a scam targeting family members of inmates.

According to the sheriff’s office, officials have recently received reports of people receiving calls from a private number claiming they must pay between $500 and $800 to have a loved one released on electronic monitoring.

The sheriff’s office said the calls are fraudulent and emphasized that it will never ask for money, gift cards, payment information, wire transfers, or any other form of payment to secure the release of an incarcerated person or place someone on electronic monitoring.

Officials advise anyone who receives one of these calls not to send money or provide personal or financial information, to hang up immediately and report the incident to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 733-6218.
