The Madera County Sheriff’s Office responded to more than 1,000 calls for service over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, while its Boat Patrol at Bass Lake completed hundreds of vessel stops without a single boating fatality or serious injury, officials said Thursday.

The sheriff’s dispatch center handled 1,088 incoming calls between July 3 and July 5, including 355 emergency 911 calls. Deputies responded to a range of incidents throughout the county, including 71 firework-related calls, 21 fires, and two search-and-rescue operations.

At Bass Lake, the department’s Boat Patrol contacted 3,456 people and completed 722 vessel stops, 503 inspections, and terminated 44 voyages for hazardous reasons over the three-day period.

Despite the heavy volume of activity on the water, officials reported zero boating fatalities, zero serious boating accidents, zero boating injuries and zero boating-under-the-influence arrests.

“Our goal isn’t to ruin your fun weekend, only to keep all of our lake-goers safe, and we do that through proactive enforcement and education,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
