The Fresno Police Department, in collaboration with the Fresno Fire Department, reported seizing approximately 108 pounds of illegal fireworks and issuing 21 citations during a citywide enforcement operation over the Fourth of July weekend.
The operation, led by the department’s District Safety Teams, ran from the evening of Friday, July 3, through the early morning hours of Sunday, July 5, and focused on reducing illegal fireworks activity.
During the operation, Fresno police officers and District Safety Team personnel handled nearly 1,700 calls for service, including 491 fireworks-related calls. Officers responded directly to 35 fireworks-related incidents and issued citations for illegal fireworks possession or use, police said.
The department said preliminary data showed a decrease in 911 call volume during the holiday period, dropping from 1,626 calls during the same timeframe in 2025 to 1,093 calls this year.
District Safety Team officers also assisted with four shooting-related incidents. While most arrests were unrelated to fireworks, officers made 43 felony and misdemeanor arrests and recovered three firearms while patrolling areas where illegal fireworks activity was reported.
The Fresno Police Department said the operation was part of its ongoing effort to address dangerous holiday behavior.
