Visalia police arrested a 46-year-old man after responding to a reported family disturbance early Sunday morning in which officers heard gunshots, authorities said.
Officers were called at approximately 1:50 a.m. to the 1400 block of North Hall Street for a large family disturbance. Upon arrival, officers reported hearing gunfire coming from the backyard of the residence.
Police were told that Mario Arredondo, 46, was inside the home with family members and was in possession of a firearm.
Shortly after, Arredondo exited the residence. Officers issued verbal commands, but he allegedly failed to comply and attempted to re-enter the home. Officers then deployed a less-lethal device, allowing them to take him into custody.
During the investigation, officers recovered a firearm. A search warrant was later executed at the residence, where investigators found a spent shell casing in the backyard and additional ammunition in the suspect’s bedroom, police said.
Arredondo was transported to a hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Detention Facility on multiple charges, including making criminal threats, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person, negligent discharge of a firearm, and resisting or delaying a peace officer.
