California Highway Patrol officers in Fresno arrested 17 drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence during a 12-hour maximum enforcement period, CHP reported on Monday.

Officers also reported that they impounded nine vehicles during the operation.

Across the agency’s Central Division, which spans roughly 18 offices from the Grapevine to Modesto and from Sonora to Los Banos, officers arrested 83 drivers for DUI during the same 12-hour period.

Officials said impaired driving is preventable and noted that each arrest represents incidents that could have resulted in crashes, injuries, or fatalities.
