Two people were arrested on multiple weapons-related charges after a speeding vehicle led officers to a solo crash and a subsequent search in Madera County, authorities said.

Early Friday morning, officers on patrol observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 99. The vehicle continued northbound and soon went out of sight, the Madera Police Department reported Saturday.

Shortly after, dispatch received reports of a traffic collision near Avenue 16 and Highway 99. Officers responded and found a solo-vehicle crash on an offramp. The vehicle was unoccupied but was identified as the same one seen speeding moments earlier.

During a search of the area, officers located two individuals in a nearby field attempting to conceal themselves. They were identified as Edwin Ramirez and Lesay Munoz.

Investigators determined Munoz, a convicted felon, was in possession of a firearm. A search of the crashed vehicle also turned up a second firearm.

Both individuals were arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail on multiple weapons-related charges.
