A driver suffered serious injuries in a crash that authorities say was caused by excessive speed and loss of control, the Fresno-area California Highway Patrol said Thursday.

CHP said the vehicle slid hundreds of feet before overturning. The force of the crash resulted in serious injuries to the driver.

Authorities said the crash serves as a reminder of the dangers of speeding. According to CHP, higher speeds not only increase the likelihood of being involved in a collision but also dramatically increase the force of impact and the risk of severe or life-threatening injuries.

“No destination is worth risking your life or the lives of others on our roadways,” the agency said.

No additional information about the driver or the circumstances of the crash was immediately available.
