A driver was cited on suspicion of driving under the influence after Fresno police said officers stopped a vehicle for reckless driving late Monday night near Divisadero Street and San Pablo Avenue.

Police said the traffic stop happened shortly before 12:30 a.m. Officers contacted the driver, identified as Esteban Valenzuela, and noticed alcoholic beverage containers inside the vehicle.

According to Fresno police, Valenzuela refused to turn off the vehicle and pressed the accelerator while speaking with officers, though the vehicle was still in park.

Officers removed Valenzuela from the vehicle after police said the person refused to follow commands.

Following a DUI investigation, police determined he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Valenzuela was cited and released at the scene, police said. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
