A 23-year-old man was arrested Sunday after Hanford police investigating a domestic violence incident found an unserialized handgun with a loaded extended magazine near a child during a traffic stop, authorities said.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of Fernot Street to investigate a reported domestic violence incident, according to a Hanford Police Department press release. During the investigation, police identified Isaiah Alcala as the suspect.

While officers were still investigating, they spotted Alcala driving a vehicle in the area and conducted a traffic stop. Police said Alcala was taken into custody without incident.

During the investigation, officers found an unserialized Glock-style firearm equipped with a fully loaded extended magazine inside the vehicle. Authorities said the weapon was located near a young child seated in the back seat. Officers also reported finding narcotics paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Police said further investigation showed Alcala is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. Officers also determined he was out on bail from a previous arrest in another county at the time of the incident.

Alcala was booked into the Kings County Jail on multiple felony charges, including domestic violence, felon in possession of a firearm, child endangerment and narcotics-related offenses.
