A 21-year-old man was arrested early Friday after Madera police officers investigating fresh graffiti found him standing in front of a newly vandalized fence, authorities said.

Officers were patrolling near Central and Aram avenues when they noticed fresh graffiti painted on a residential fence line, according to the Madera Police Department.

During the investigation, officers contacted Evan Perez who was standing directly in front of the graffiti, police said. Authorities said Perez later admitted to vandalizing the fence with spray paint.

Perez was arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail.

The Madera Police Department said it maintains “zero tolerance” for property crimes such as vandalism and graffiti and will continue proactive enforcement efforts aimed at preventing those offenses and holding offenders accountable.
