A strong thunderstorm is moving through south central Madera and central Fresno counties Tuesday afternoon, bringing the potential for wind gusts up to 40 mph and half-inch hail, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a special weather statement at 3:54 p.m. PT, saying Doppler radar was tracking the storm near Bonadelle Ranchos-Madera Ranchos, about 10 miles north of Clovis. The storm was moving northeast at about 10 mph and was expected to impact the area through 4:30 p.m.

Officials said gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, while minor hail damage to vegetation was possible.

Locations in the storm’s path included Clovis, Yosemite Lakes, Friant, and Millerton Lake.

The Weather Service advised those outdoors to seek shelter inside a building if possible and to monitor local radio and television stations for updates and possible additional warnings.
