A pickup truck and an empty jet ski trailer were fully submerged at the end of a Bass Lake boat ramp over the weekend, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the incident occurred as the Sheriff’s Dive Team and Boat Patrol were concluding a training at Bass Lake when a team member was contacted at the Wishon Boat Launch about a vehicle entering the water.

Boat and dive deputies responded and found the truck and trailer submerged. The owner of the vehicle was on scene, and the sheriff’s office said the vehicle was unoccupied when it entered the lake.

Divers assisted a tow truck in rigging the vehicle for removal. The truck was recovered without injury or environmental impact, according to authorities.

The sheriff’s office reminded the public to ensure vehicles are in park with the parking brake engaged before exiting, especially on boat ramps or inclines, to prevent similar incidents.
